Welcome

Welcome to the monthly newsletter for members and associates of the Biofeedback Art-Research-Practice Network — a platform for sharing your work, offering collaboration, getting feedback, and finding professional opportunities. The newsletter serves to circulate news and support initiatives of the community members, so please feel encouraged to feed details regarding any relevant subject by using the feedback form.

Highlights

Since the announcement, the Network welcomed new members. This newsletter introduces the work of a few of them:

Barbara Nerness (Palo Alto, CA) is an artist, researcher, and PhD candidate at Stanford’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), also pursuing a Certificate in Composition. Her research focuses on brain dynamics measured by EEG during music improvisation, and she also writes, performs, and improvises multichannel music using sounds of the body (heartbeat, breath, brainwaves), field recordings, guitar, and electronics. Barbara enjoys collaboration, especially projects investigating the body, surveillance, and technological subversion. https://www.barbaranerness.com

Alex Chechile (Providence, RI) is a sound artist, composer, and electronic artist whose work develops in parallel with research in neuroscience and psychoacoustics. With a particular interest in the relationship between sound and the body, his immersive compositions, installations, and performances aim to bring transparency to otherwise invisible processes in biological and technological systems. Questions that arise in his artistic work lead to formalized studies, and the results cyclically inform his sonic practice. Currently, Alex is a Research Fellow and faculty at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). https://alexchechile.com

Coming up is the Network’s website launch. Please submit your photo & bio using the form. This development happens thanks to the initiative and commitment of Krisztián Hofstädter. In forthcoming weeks Kris may reach out to you with an email to specify a detail or two. Keep an eye on your inbox!
