Welcome
Welcome to the monthly newsletter for members and associates of the Biofeedback Art-Research-Practice Network — a platform for sharing your work, offering collaboration, getting feedback, and finding professional opportunities. The newsletter serves to circulate news and support initiatives of the community members, so please feel encouraged to feed details regarding any relevant subject by using the feedback form.
Highlights
Since the announcement in late October, the network welcomed several new members. In the first newsletter iteration, we would like to share the work of a few of them:
Micah Huang (Cambridge, MA; US) is a musician and interdisciplinary performance artist interested in the possibilities of biofeedback and biodata as sources for music, performance art, and theoretical exploration that bridges biomedical and traditional East/Southeast Asian understandings of living energy and embodied consciousness. Pursuing a PhD in Creative Practice and Critical Inquiry (Harvard University), Micah seeks collaboration with artists, scientists, technology-makers, and community members in creating work that evokes socio-cultural change. https://www.micahhuangmusic.com
Réka Harsányi (Budapest; HU) is a media designer, experimental video artist, and founder of the Connected Bodies Team. Her graduate work had been concentrated on the application of EEG-based biofeedback in dance performance. http://harsanyireka.net
George Khut (Sydney; AU) is a Chinese-Australian artist creating ceramic art objects for everyday use, and interactive electronic artworks that explore connections between body and mind. Using biofeedback technologies, he produced performances that employ live recordings of heartbeat, breath, and Alphabrainwaves pertaining to the clinical application. https://www.georgekhut.com
In the forthcoming monthly editions, we will continue introducing 2-3 members at a time. You are very welcome to share your recent work and the most up-to-date BIOs for the feature.
Coming up
Coming up is a partnership with Gray Area — a San Francisco-based nonprofit cultural incubator fostering radical artistic experimentation and creative expression transcending disciplinary boundaries. If you are interested in presenting a workshop or performing at the venue, send a proposal to a proper member of the team or share a pitch with anchernyshyova@gmail.com to facilitate consideration.
The 1st meeting of the Network is taking place on December 8th at 12:00 PM Pacific Time. Join us using the Zoom link. If you have suggestions or material to circulate among attendees, please send them via email.
